A Virginia university is taking its students on a “Freedom Rides Tour” that will retrace the bus route in the South in the 1960s.

The tour, which the Associated Press said will go from Oct. 12 to Oct. 15, aims to celebrate civil rights legend Dr. James L. Farmer Jr.

The University of Mary Washington said locals near Fredericksburg, Virginia can join students on the trip.

During the ride, the buses will make stops similar to those the Freedom Riders made in addition to excursions at the International Civil Rights Center & Museum and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, according to the report.

The "Freedom Riders" protested segregation on national buses during the civil rights movement.
