17-Year-Old Registered Popeyes Customers To Vote While In Line

August 28, 2019

A 17-year-old in North Carolina took advantage of how popular the new Popeyes chicken sandwich is by registering customers in line to vote.

David Ledbetter last weekend approached customers in line with voter registration forms and sample ballots, CNN reported.

"We were seeing how long the lines were [at Popeyes] and figured we would try to go get individuals to vote," he said in an interview with CNN. "I was just hoping that the individuals would register to vote."

Ledbetter and his peers lost track of the total number of forms they gave out near the Charlotte restaurant but said they ran out, according to the report.

He came up with the idea in collaboration with a local lawyer.

The chicken chain restaurant started a social media craze when it first announced the new menu item.

Earlier this week, Popeyes said it is sold out of the sandwich for now.
