Joan Johnson, Co-Founder Of Johnson Hair Products, Dead At 89

Joan Johnson, who founded black hair product company Johnson Products, died last week. 

Johnson Products, created in Chicago, emerged as a large black-owned business that created products such as Afro Sheen.

Johnson’s son told CNN she died as a result of an undisclosed illness. 

Johnson Products was recognized as the first black-owned company to be traded on the American Stock Exchange.
