When the New York City Ballet’s annual season of “The Nutcracker” opened at the Lincoln Center last month, history was made.

The latest cast features ballerina Charlotte Nebres, who became the first African-American lead in the production since it premiered in 1954, The New York Times reported.

Nebres, now 11 and a School of American Ballet student, was cast as Marie in the performance.

She told The New York Times it wasn’t a massive deal for her to become the first black Marie because “it’s just how I grew up so it’s not really different to me.”

The performance will run through Jan. 5.
