What you Need to Know About the D.C. Emancipation Day Parade

The 2018 D.C. Emancipation Day parade and concert goes down this Saturday and we've got you covered on everything you need to know!

Why: "The DC Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862 ended slavery in Washington, DC, freed 3,100 individuals, reimbursed those who had legally owned them and offered the newly freed women and men money to emigrate. It is this legislation, and the courage and struggle of those who fought to make it a reality, that we commemorate every April 16, DC Emancipation Day." - D.C. Government

Who: Mayor Muriel Bowser will be present, and the parade will feature appearances from Brandy, Angie Stone, Big Dady Kane, Allure, Ayre Rayde, Rare Essence and many more! 

Where: Pennsylvania Ave, NW. between 10th St NW and 14th St NW

When: April 14 from 2 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
