WATCH: Ari Lennox Defends Use of N-Word in Awkward Exchange with Fan

September 5, 2018

By Erin Thibeau

Ari Lennox, an up-and-coming singer from D.C., was chatting with the audience after her F.3.A.M.E. Room Live performance when a man asked why she uses the N-word. (Warning: explicit language below)

"It's just slang that I love to use," she responded.

When he pushed back, offended at her use of the word, she explained what she calls her "agenda."

"What black greatness is to me," she began, "is owning my beautiful black nose curls."

"Honestly I like the word nigga, Ima keep sayin' it," she said, "but what's most important to me is for every black sister in here to know...their greatness and how beautiful they are, and don't let no media tell you any different."

Watch the exchange below:

Elsewhere in the interview with WPGC's Adimu, the Dreamville recording artist got real about her upbringing in the DMV and her ex-boyfriend, the subject of her new single "Whipped Cream."
