Gayle King is being dragged on Twitter following an interview she conducted with Lisa Leslie on the friendship the basketball starr shared with the late Kobe Bryant.

A short clip of King asking Leslie about Kobe Bryant's past rape allegation has left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.

In the now viral clip, King says "It's been said that his legacy is complicated, because of a sexual assault charge."

People across the internet, including 50 Cent called the question inappropriate.

"what is this, wait somebody gotta help me understand why they keep doing this. ----‍♂️i apologize for my language in advance let’s talk about this," 50 Cent commented under a post of the clip on his Instagram page.

"Smfh Gayles interview with Lisa Leslie was tasteless, classless and crass. She literally weaponized Lisa’s womanhood in a failed attempt to vandalize the late, GREAT Kobe’s legacy. Smfh Lisa handled it with poise," Masika Kalysha, of Love & Hip-Hop tweeted.

"So glad Lisa Leslie didn't fold. She's right: they had 17 years to ask these questions. So glad folks aren't afraid to call Oprah and Gayle King out anymore," @theteaisbyme tweeted.

"Of course, Now that you’re in the same tax bracket as the white men you have to demonize black men right? Lisa Leslie was Kobe’s friend, how dare you!" @iamjperez2 tweeted.

King gave her own response to the backlash, citing the clip of her interview with Leslie being taken out of context.

"We had a really wide-ranging interview; talked about many things, his career, his passion, his sense of humor, the way he was mentoring other people, how he was starting his next chapter, it was wide-ranging, an yes we talked about that court case because that court case has also come up," she said in a video posted to her Twitter account. "I wanted to get Lisa's take on it as a friend who knew him well, as a friend what she thought, where that should stand."

King said that she thought the entire interview, including the part where Leslie asks for the media to move on provided a good end to that part of the discussion.

"It was very powerful when she looked me in the eye, as a member of the media, to say it's time for the media to leave it alone and to back off," King said.

She said that the clip was released without her knowledge and she didn't intend to disrepect Bryant.

"For the network to take the most salacious part, when taken out of context, and put it up online for people who didn't see the whole interview is very upsetting to me, and that's something i'm going to have to deal with with them," she said.

She went on to discuss her own personal experiences with Bryant and said that he had been warm to her in their interactions.

"The last thing I would want to do is to disparage [Kobe Bryant> at this time,"

#PressPlay: #GayleKing speaks out about her #LisaLeslie interview where they discussed #KobeBryant, and she says she understands why everyone is upset. She explains the initial intent behind the interview, and says the context behind it was not rolled out the way she expected. (SWIPE)
