'Shame on You': Rihanna Responds to Snapchat's Viral Ad

March 13, 2018

Rihanna has personally responded to Snapchat after getting wind of the ad that went viral asking users if they would rather "slap Rihanna" or "punch Chris Brown." This caused Snap's stock to plummet nearly 4 percent, according to CNN, which is equivalent to an $800 million drop in market value.

She went off on the company on her Instagram story: “I’d love to call it ignorance but I know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!! This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them…but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet ….you let us down! Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away."

It's just one more publicity mess for Snap, Inc., which recently lost $1.3 billion in market value after Kylie Jenner tweeted that she doesn't even open the app anymore.

Original Story:

Snapchat has apologized after one user called attention to an ad on its platform asking users if they would rather "slap Rihanna" or "punch Chris Brown."

The ad for the "Would You Rather!" game was no doubt referencing Chris Brown's assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009

A spokesperson told Mashable, "The ad was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines. We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened."

People on Twitter, including activist Brittany Packnett and former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, criticized the ad itself as well as Snapchat for reviewing and approving it.
