Every week, WPGC's Poet will highlight a woman who is doing her thing for "Women Crushing It Wednesday."

This week, actress and writer Sofia Pellegrino joined Poet to talk about her DMV roots and her new film "The Last Cry," which is set to premiere in D.C. on November 8.

"This film is very special to me because it has a lot to do with sexual harassment and bullying,"  Pellegrino said.

Pellegrino, who also directed the film, says she has a personal connection to the film.

"I wanted something to empower women. I wanted something that people could relate to," Pellegrino started. "Whatever it is that they're facing...I just want to motivate people."

The proceeds from the sold out show will benefit El Poder de Ser Mujer, a non-profit organization that aims to cover the educational and development needs of Latina woman in the metropolitan area.
