Women Crushing It Wednesday: Ruth E. Carter, Black Panther Costume Designer

"Black Panther" is the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, and it's also picked up nominations for costume design, sound editing, sound mixing, production design, original score and original song.

In honor of the movie's Oscar nod for costume design, we're revisiting Poet's interview with lead costume designer Ruth E. Carter for Women Crushing It Wednesday.

"Black women, we always think of ourselves as queens anyway," Carter told Poet in March 2018. "We give it a context, we give it an origin and a place, so I think that women will leave the film feeling empowered."
