Laz Alonso joined Poet on Thursday to talk about his work with the Toyota Green Initiative, which focuses on "addressing the problem of food deserts in underserviced communities" by partnering with HBCUs and local community farms.

The actor  – best known for roles in "Avatar" and "Fast & Furious" – is in town for #BroccoliCon2018, a two-day conference associated with Broccoli City Festival.

Alsonso is a D.C. native, and wants to make sure the whole city experiences "environmental equity."

"We start developing all these green initiative and green movements; we cannot let underserviced communities not participate either," he told Poet. "As we have this conversation of healthier and greener living we cannot forget that that should be for all people, regardless of your social and economic status."

"Our goal is to use both our muscles and our celebritiy and our platforms to bring attention to an area of need," Alonso continued.
