NBA Star LeBron James Won't Be Able To Trademark 'Taco Tuesday'

September 12, 2019

NBA star LeBron James loves Taco Tuesday so much he tried to trademark the phrase. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office wasn’t having it.

The USPTO denied the application because the phrase “Taco Tuesday” is a “commonplace term,” ESPN reported.

The agency said the phrase is “widely used by a variety of sources that merely conveys an ordinary, familiar, well-recognized sentiment or message.”

James reportedly was interested in pursuing the trademark so he couldn’t be sued for using the phrase.

LBJ Trademarks filed the application hoping to use the phrase on social media and for marketing purposes.

James has developed a reputation for developing “Taco Tuesday” social media content.
