"Who I am now is who I'm supposed to be," Snoop Dogg told Poet backstage at the Warner Theatre over the weekend.

The rapper and Je’Caryous Johnson brought the semi-autobiographical touring musical "Redemption of a Dogg" to Washington, D.C., from November 9 through 11. The show stars Snoop and Tamar Braxton and features music from his gospel-inspired LP "Bible of Life."

Snoop reflected on this latest phase in his storied career and explained how God has always been instrumental in his success.

"I feel I'm nothing without God," he told Poet. "You take God everywhere with you, through the good, the bad and the ugly."

The rapper is focused on building his brand – from sauces to slippers – in partnership with Martha Stewart, because  "she is the best at moving that kind of product." The two will return for season three of "Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party."
