D.C. Children Among Most At-Risk in America

July 18, 2019

Children in the District are among the most at-risk youth in America.

D.C. ranked second in the U.S. in the national ranking of at-risk kids, according to a WalletHub study.

The outlet used 15 indicators in the survey, including share of disconnected youth, labor force participation rate among youth and youth poverty.

D.C. ranked No. 3 in the “education and employment” rank and No. 23 in the health category.

The study cites research that says children are more at risk for poverty, violence and early pregnancy when they grow up without role models and in environments with financial problems.
