A new children’s book aims to inspire black children to consider becoming doctors.

Dr. Dale Okorodudu, an internist at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, authored the book titled “Doc 2 Doc Tony And Jace Learn About The Heart.”

In a Facebook post, Okorodudu said he is launching a series that will feature both characters. He has already written five books.

“I woke up one morning and wanted my boys to read a book about black boys interested in something other than sports,” he wrote in the post. “I thought ‘It’d be nice for them to read about kids interested in science & medicine.”’

Okorodudu also founded Black Men In White Coats, an organization that aims to increase the number black men in the medical field.

About 6 percent of physicians and surgeons are black, according to U.S. News & World Report.
