Mixed Reactions Pour in After Video Shows Teacher Fighting Student Who Repeatedly Called Him N-Word

A video of a teacher getting into a fight with a student who repeatedly called him the n-word and threatened him is being met with mixed reactions.

The 14-year-old student is seen on video cursing and threatening 64-year-old California music teacher Marston Riley before the altercation turns physical.

*Warning: The video contains explicit language and material*

The video does not show the entire incident but it does show what appears to be a campus resource officer attempting to stop the fight.

Students at the school say the fight started after Riley asked the student to leave the classroom because he wasn't in proper uniform, KTLA-TV reports. This is when the student began to verbally assault Riley and call him racial slurs.

Riley faces charges of child abuse, according to KTLA-TV.  The teacher has received a lot of support from the community. #JusticeForRiley began trending after the video was posted online.

A GoFundMe for the teacher has raised $38,384 as of this writing. Read the description from the GoFundMe below:

Mr. Riley is a music teacher at Maywood Academy High School. He has earned the respect of many teachers, staff and students. Unfortunately, over the past few years unpleasant events have happened to him. Despite all that has happened, he has continued to do what he loves the most, to teach music.

Today, another distasteful event happened to Mr. Riley. Many of you have seen the video, which I will not post here. And sadly, he was handcuffed and was sent to jail.

Those who want to donate for his bail and or lawyers please do so and share. All of what is donated will go to him.

We all may have mixed feelings about what happened. But please do know that this is not the first time that Mr. Riley is attacked; physically or verbally.  He is a great person and a great teacher.

Update: as of November 3rd, 2018

Mr. Riley was released earlier today. However, I will keep this GoFundMe because he is going to need all the help he can get. Be mindful that the school district is looking at dismissing him and I would not doubt if the student's parents are looking into pressing criminal charges. I am sure Mr. Riley will need money to pay any fines, fees and lawyers.  For those who continue to donate, Thank you!

RIley confirmed the fundraiser was legitimate in a video.
