Here's How Federal Workers Can Get Zero-Interest Loans During the Shutdown

January 24, 2019

By Erin Thibeau

Mayor Muriel Bowser says the District will offer zero-interest loans of up to $5,000 to furloughed federal workers who may not be able to pay their mortgage this month due to the ongoing government shutdown.

The District's housing and finance agency will oversee the $9 million program, a stopgap measure to help the more than 70,000 D.C. residents suffering from the shutdown, Bowser says.

Starting Friday at 10 a.m., D.C. homeowners should call 1-833-429-0537 to begin the DC MAP application process. Keep in mind, financial assistance will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis until the program allocation has been depleted.
