Madden Reps Say Kaepernick Omission is 'Unfortunate Mistake'

EA Sports representatives say the omission of Colin Kaepernick's name from the Madden 2019 soundtrack was an "unfortunate mistake."

"We made an unfortunate mistake with our Madden NFL soundtrack," EA said in a statement to ESPN's Darren Rovell. "Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don't have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn't affect soundtracks. We messed up, and the edit should never have happened. We will make it right, with an update to Madden NFL 19 on August 6 that will include the reference again. We meant no disrespect, and we apologize to Colin, to YG and Big Sean, to the NFL, to all of their fans and our players for this mistake."

A video circulated online Thursday showing that the game censored Kaepernick's name in Big Sean's verse on YG's "Big Bank."

In the verse, Big Sean raps "You boys all cap, I'm more Colin Kaepernick." You can hear that the name is wiped in the clip.

It didn't take long for the video to draw reactions, including one from Big Sean himself.

"It’s disappointing and appalling @NFL & @EA took @Kaepernick7’s name out of my verse on Big Bank for Madden 19, like it was a curse word," Big Sean wrote on Twitter. "When he's not a curse, he's a gift! Nobody from my team approved any of this."

YG also weighed in.

@ea & @nfl OWE US A APOLOGY! Me or @2chainz @bigsean or @nickiminaj did not approve for @kaepernick7 name to be took off BIG BANK on madden. That shit wack. Y’all puttin us in the middle of a twist. Disrespectful, TAP IN
