YBN Cordae Inspired By 'Dope' D.C. Culture

July 31, 2019

Prince George’s County native YBN Corade said the D.C. area has a significant impact on the music he produces because local music and fashion trends aren’t inspired by other cities.

In an interview with the Joe Clair Morning Show, Cordae revealed the way D.C.’s cultures inspires him and the music he creates.

“We’re just unapologetically ourselves in the DMV,” Cordae said. “We come up with stuff ourselves.”

Cordae’s new single, “Bad Idea” with Chance the Rapper, has more than a million views and over two million streams combined in a week. The 21-year-old artist has also remixed Eminem’s “My Name Is” and created a single that responds to J. Cole’s “1985.”

Cordae said he was influenced by the unique aspects of D.C. culture growing up.

“We have go-go music, we have our own genre of music,” Cordae said. “It’s just such a dope area as far as just the culture goes. We have our own subculture within us.”

Logic, JID and YBN Cordae will are scheduled to perform at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia on Nov. 2.
