LISTEN: Billy Ray Cyrus Joins Lil Nas X in ‘Old Town Road’ Remix

April 5, 2019

You don't want to miss the "Old Town Road" remix.

After Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” was taken off Billboard’s country songs chart for not including enough elements to fit the genre, Billy Ray Cyrus expressed his support for the singer.

Now, the country star has taken that support a step further. In the remix, Cyrus sings one of the song’s verses, which discusses diamond rings and Maseratis.

The original version of the song quickly became popular, and Billboard’s decision to remove it from its country chart sparked controversy. The song is still on the Hot R&B and Hip-Hip chart, but Lil Nas X said in an interview with Time that the song is “country trap” and should fall under both categories.

Cyrus expressed his support for the song earlier this week in a tweet.

"Don't try and think inside the box. Don't think outside the box. Think like there is no box." #HorsesInTheBack

“Been watching everything going on with OTR,’ Cyrus tweeted. “When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me ‘Take this as a compliment” means you’re doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!”

Days later, the pair released the remix.

In response to a tweet about the possibility of the two collaborating, Lil Nas X said “and he murdered the shit.”
