How to Score a Free Ride Home on New Year's Eve

December 28, 2018

By Erin Thibeau

New Year's Eve is a notoriously heavy-drinking holiday, and it's vital to plan out how you're getting home in advance.

That's where the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) 2018 Holiday SoberRide Campaign comes in. Lyft users age 21 or older can get a free ride home up to $15 in the D.C. area between 8 p.m. on Monday, December 31, and 4 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1.

The code to enter into the Lyft app’s "Promo" section will be posted on the SoberRide website at noon on New Year's Eve, and you'll want to grab it fast, as limited quantities are available.

Metro is another great option for getting home safely on New Year's Eve.

WMATA announced that the system will stay open until 2 a.m. So make sure to check your Metro station’s site for the last train times and add two and a half hours to find the last train on New Year’s Eve.

On January 1, Metrorail will open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m., and trains will operate on Sunday/holiday schedule.

Turn up safely fam!
