Get a Free Ride to the Polls on Election Day with Lyft and Uber

October 19, 2018

It's estimated that more than 15 million people were registered to vote in 2016 but never did due to transportation issues.

Thankfully, ride-hailing services are helping voters get to the polls on Election Day with specials and freebies.

Lyft announced back in August that it will distribute 50 percent off promo codes to those who need them through partners like, Nonprofit Vote and TurboVote. For underserved communities, Lyft will provide free rides through partners including Voto Latino, local Urban League affiliates and the National Federation of the Blind.

Uber is also stepping up on Election Day. The company announced earlier this month that it will partner with #VoteTogether and Democracy Works, and the organizations will distribute promo codes for free rides to the polls.

"We will also be offering $10 off a single ride to the polls on Election Day on the most affordable Uber option available in your city (Express POOL, POOL, or UberX, in that order)," the company said in an update. The promo code will be made available to users in the app on November 6.

What's more, Uber riders can quickly find their polling place and request a ride with a "get to the polls" button (just make sure you have the latest version of the app).
