D.C. Suspect Shot by Prince George's County Officer

May 1, 2018

An armed robbery suspect was shot by a Prince George's County police officer late Monday morning. Authorities were attempting to execute an arrest warrant on 26-year-old Corey Markell Janifer when they shot him, police say.

The shooting took place at 5805 Cherrywood Lane in Greenbelt.

Janifer locked himself in a room inside an apartment as officers attempted to arrest him. As police prepared to infiltrate the room, one of the officers "perceived a threat and responded to that threat," shooting the suspect in the stomach, according to Police Chief Hank Stawinski.

The suspect was wanted in D.C. for an April robbery and shooting, Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski said.

The officer involved in the shooting hasn't been identified. He is a 19-year veteran of the force, WUSA9 reports.
