The Washington Capitals, led by their captain, Alex Ovechkin, won their first Stanley Cup Championship in the franchise’s history at Game 5 on Thursday night, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights on their home turf 4-3.

"It's just so unbelievable. I don't know what to say. I'm so happy. I'm probably the happiest guy," Ovechkin yelled after the game in Las Vegas.

The scene was jubilant back in the D.C. area. Bars and viewing parties around the District exploded with cheers, bear hugs, high fives, and chants as the clock ran out.

Crowds surged through the streets surrounding Capital One Arena, which hosted a watch party inside and played the game on giant screens outside. Bands broke out into street performances throughout Chinatown and cars honked their horns to the rhythm of "Let's go Caps!"
