DC Centenarian Turns 110 With Mayor Bowser and Baby Miranda

March 15, 2019

Virginia McLaurin has had her fair share of fun birthdays.

McLaurin met the Obamas at the White House in 2016 in advance of her 107th birthday and the Harlem Globetrotters last year when she turned 109, The Washington Post reported.

And for her 110th birthday this week, McLaurin celebrated with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and her baby, Miranda.

“Miranda and I are honored to be your 110th wish Grandma Virginia!” Bowser said in a tweet. “It brings joy to my heart seeing you age in place and enjoying the love and company of family in an #AgeFriendlyDC.”

McLaurin was born in South Carolina and has been widowed for more than 70 years, the Post reported.

Several prominent people sent McLaurin birthday wishes on social media.
