WPGC has selected Tai Campbell as the second Real Good People Awards winner!

Tai works at Taken Back Our Community, a non-profit "focused on bringing the community together through innovative and affordable programming. At TBOC we focus on educational programs balanced across Mind, Body and Spirit."

As his nomination reads:

Mr. Campbell is a community activist. The name of his organization is Taken Back Our Community. He teaches youth and adults Chess, music, and boxing in the school system and in the parks and rec centers. He also partnered up with the DC Police going from ward to ward for 4 summers in a row helping the youth find a voice in their community thru performing arts. He has an after school program called Eesha’s World where kids learn about acting, singing, dancing and perform original songs at places like Children’s National Hospital, family homeless shelters in DC, and Macy’s for kids with disabilities. He also has an initiative called the Barbershop Chess league where he gets the Barbershop owners to come together through the game of Chess for community bonding and learning sessions. Every spring/summer he gives kids and adults a platform to showcase their talent in Downtown Silver Spring in an outdoor open Mic nights from 5 pm to 11pm with Live DJs, Instrumentalist, singers, dancers, poet, comedians, magicians or just an individual in the community that wants to be heard. His message of taken back our community is shouted all through the night. Even the police of Montgomery County come out to enjoy the festivities. He also works with an autistic kid named Eric Grantham and has been helping him with original gospel songs and performances. They go around to different churches throughout the DMV telling their stories performing and inspiring people.

Adimu and members of WPGC's promotions team surprised Tai with his award on May 3.
