Capital Area Food Bank to Distribute Free Food to Government Workers January 12

January 11, 2019

By Erin Thibeau

The Capital Area Food Bank is looking out for furloughed government employees and contractors during the partial government shutdown.

On Saturday, January 12, CAFB will be handing out free produce and shelf-stable food outside of five area Giant stores from 9 a.m. to noon. All you need is a valid ID or federal contractor ID.

Check out the list of locations below (and see the map here):

  • Brentwood store – 1050 Brentwood Road Brentwood, Washington, DC
  • Richmond Highway – 6800 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, Virginia
  • Campus Way South – 10480 Campus Way South, Largo, Maryland
  • Allentown Rd – 7074 Allentown Rd, Camp Springs, Maryland
  • Rockville Pike – 12051 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland

Federal employees can also grab a free signature bowl from Sweetgreen all weekend.

We’ve come a long way since that tiny tavern in Georgetown, but the district will always be home. This Friday, many Federal government employees will go without a paycheck due to the shutdown. We hope to provide some small relief by taking care of dinner. Visit any location in DMV this weekend (1/11 - 1/13) from 6-8pm and receive a free signature salad with your Federal government ID.

&pizza is also offering freebies to furloughed workers, though the chain recently changed the hours the deal is available.
