Build-A-Bear was forced to pull back on their 'Pay Your Age Day' campaign  "due to crowd and safety concerns," the toy company announced Thursday.

The company announced that July 12 would be "the first-ever Pay Your Age Day at Build-A-Bear Workshop! For one day only, you can pay your age for ANY, we repeat, ANY furry friend at the Workshop."

The problem for Build-A-Bear was that the lines grew much  faster than expected, causing local authorities to call a shutdown of the promotion.

"Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our U.S. Build-A-Bear Workshop locations due to crowd and safety concerns," Build-A-Bear announced on their website. "We have closed lines in our U.S. stores. We understand some of our Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible."

Many people on social media expressed their frustration with the abrupt cancellation of the promotion.
