At Least 1 Dead After Helicopter Crashes into Manhattan Office Building

June 10, 2019

(1010 WINS) -- A helicopter crashed into a building in midtown Manhattan Monday afternoon, reportedly killing one person, the pilot.

The helicopter crashed into 787 Seventh Avenue.

"MAN 2-ALARM 787 7 AVE, HIGH RISE HELICOPTER CRASH INTO BUILDING," the FDNY tweeted.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who arrived at the scene after the crash, told reporters, "This is very preliminary information ...  there was a helicopter that made an emergency landing or landed on the roof for one reason or another and there was a fire when the helicopter hit the roof. People in the building felt the building shake. The fire is under control. There may have been causalities. We do not know. We don't know what caused the helicopter to land on the building ... People in the building itself, no one has been hurt ... They're not defining it as a hard landing or an emergency landing just that the helicopter landed on the building which caused the fire."

WCBS-TV reported that one person was injured. WABC reported that one person was killed.

Buildings in the area were evacuated.
