On this day in 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama, forever changing the scope social equality in the United States.
The Department of Transportation at the University of Maryland is honoring Parks’ act of civil disobedience by leaving a seat open on all University buses.
“We are proud to honor Rosa Parks every year on our buses,” the Department of Transportation said in a statement to WPGC.
Not enough can be said about Parks’ remarkable show of courage. She remains one of the true trailblazers of the Civil Rights movement.
