Ballet prodigy Misty Copeland has joined the cast of Disney’s upcoming live-action film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.”
Disney announced the project in March, and Copeland broke the news of her involvement via Instagram on July 13. She will appear in the movie’s only dance number as the lead ballerina, Deadline reports.
Copeland has made waves in the ballet world as the first black woman to be promoted to principal dancer in American Ballet Theatre’s 75-year history. She also danced in the role of Princess Odette in “Swan Lake” for a handful of dates at the Kennedy Center in the spring.
The ballerina first won national attention when she was featured in an ad for Under Armour.
Disney’s movie will be based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” which inspired Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet.
Now that Misty Copeland is on board, this version of “The Nutcracker” is bound to win big at the box office.
