Idina Menzel is all about taking a progressive step forward and giving her character Elsa from Frozen a relationship. But breaking with Disney’s tradition of pairing princesses with princes, fans are clamoring to partner Elsa with a woman.
The #GiveElsaAGirlfriend campaign on Twitter calls for the movie’s sequel to do just that. Appearing at the Billboard Music Awards last night (May 22), Menzel spoke with Entertainment Tonight about fan’s wishes. “I think it’s great,” she said. “Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out.”
In March 2015, Disney announced plans to release a sequel to the immensely popular animated children’s film (via Variety). As for the Twitter campaign, there’s a growing subset that feels Elsa can be a strong independent woman on her own. She doesn’t need a relationship, man or woman.
