If you’re just catching up, their tension started when Nicki Minaj pointed out the very real problem of the lack of diversity in body size and otherwise among this year’s VMAs nominees. “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” Minaj tweeted. Quick to assume she was being subtweeted, Swift fired back, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..”
After many, including Katy Perry, however, pointed out the irony of Taylor Swift complaining of someone pitting women against each other—and drew attention to how the “Bad Blood” video is a copy—she has taken back her comments.
“I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki. @NICKIMINAJ,” Swift tweeted.
Update: After seeing Swift’s tweet Minaj replied, saying, “That means so much Taylor, thank you,” with three hearts.
