Columbus Short Admits ABC ‘Did the Right Thing’

By: Jodi Phillips

This past April, Columbus Short was axed from the ABC hit show Scandal following a slew of legal troubles and now he’s speaking out on the experience.

As a regular on season 3 of the show, he quickly became a fan favorite alongside Kerry Washington.  But in April, his reign on the show came to a halt when ABC admitted Short would not return to the show.  Throughout the year, he had multiple run-ins with the law, accusations of domestic violence and a handful of arrests.

While talking to Access Hollywood, he opened up about the decision to cut him from the show.

“I think, at a certain point, when you’re [hearing] a barrage of stories after stories, ABC justifiably would want to distance themselves,” he told Access Hollywood. “They did the right thing.”

Thankfully, the bad press didn’t waver his costars support for him.  “They did not throw me to the curb like trash — that’s my family,” Short said. “They knew that I was going through a tough season and rallied around me and wrapped their arms around me, from Shonda to the craft service man. We’re a family.”

Short is currently doing standup comedy while on leave from the show.
