WPGC’s 95 Days of Peace Resources

WPGC’s 95 Days of Peace is working with the community to nix the violence and focus on positive engagements with kids, teens and adults.  Together with our listeners, we’ve compiled a list of resources for parents and teens who want to spend their time at great events instead of possibly getting into trouble.

We started our campaign with “Yo, Listen Up” on May 8 and will continue for 95 days until we can see the city in a better place.

Here are some events to attend, some youth groups to become part of and after-school activities for teens or adults.

Youth Groups:

Youth Leadership Foundation
YLF programs are specifically designed for students in Washington, D.C. who have academic ability, but who need a boost in their confidence and motivation in order to reach their full potential.  Full programs run year-round including after-school and summer groups.

Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington
The Boys & Girls Club offers a safe haven for children who may not have a place to go after school and would rather enrich their lives than spend time on the streets.

Miss Believe
Miss Believe provide programs that interactively install high self esteem and goal setting behavior within girls. They base their principles on everyday woman who have accomplished numerous goals and broken many barriers in their lives to become successful.

 S.E.T.U.P Summer Camp
June 23 – August 1, 2014
Daily summer camp for children in second through fifth grade.  Ward 8 residents are preferred.  The camp will help students with their reading, math plus offer breakfast and lunch for all who attend.  Attendees will embark on field trips, learn tennis, sewing and other activities.

Concerned Black Men National
CBMN works to fill the void of positive Black male role models in many communities by providing mentors and programs that affirmed the care and discipline that all youth need, while providing opportunities for academic and career enrichment.
