Florida Congressman, Trey Radel, who claims to be a “Hip-hop expert,” was charged after he allegedly tried to purchase cocaine from an undercover officer in DuPont Circle in Northwest D.C. on Oct. 29.

Radel appeared in court Wednesday and has released an apology, blaming the incident on his addiction to alcohol.

According to released documents, both the FBI and the DEA were involved in the charge.

Radel, a Republican, gave an interview a few months ago, calling himself an “old-school hip-hop expert.”

He said Public Enemy’s song “Fight The Power,” aligns with certain conservative messages, and how Tupac was “poetic,” while Biggie was for “the party.”
