Jay-Z Continues to Build His Dynasty

by Derek Adams

Meet Jay-Z, the mogul…

When Jay said, “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business man,” he wasn’t selling any dreams. Jay-Z has put his mogul identity into effect in the last couple of weeks and has done nothing but struck gold.

First, he partnered with CAA Sports to launch Roc Nation Sports. CAA’s catalog of clients, includes Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning and Sidney Crosby.

Just when you thought that was it, he makes headlines again with his first signing of New York Yankees star second baseman Robinson Cano, who could receive a $200 million contract in the next year.

Jay-Z is also talking to New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz.

Just a couple of days later, he and Roc Nation signed a multi-year partnership with Universal Music Group. The deal allows Roc Nation to operate as an independent music label under Universal.

The label will be home to Jay-Z and other artists on his roster, including Rihanna, J Cole and Wale.

But wait there’s more…

After moving the New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn and becoming the face of the franchise, Jay-Z decided to divest his 1 percent share of the Nets in order to represent NBA players as an agent, in the hopes to be certified in time for the draft in June.

“Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years.”

Oh, Mr. Carter will also tour this summer with Justin Timberlake, and plan to hit M&T Stadium on Aug. 8.
