Chicago rapper Chief Keef has changed his tune on Twitter. Last week, tweets from his account threatened fellow Chi-Town rapper Lupe Fiasco and made light of the murder of Lil JoJo. He’s now struck a more conciliatory tone.

Investigators have looked into Keef’s Twitter account as a result of the early comments and to check for ties to the gang shooting.

“Man, been thinkin bout this chicago street s— a lot. My prayers go out 2 Jojo’s family on their loss,” Keef said in a September 8 tweet that has since been deleted. The 17-year-old then repeated his past claim that his Twitter account was hacked and said he is shocked that his name has even been mentioned in the investigation. “I didn’t know him but he young just like me,” Keef posted. “I can assure everyone that I had nothing to do with this tragedy tho. My twitter account was hacked.”

Chicago police are looking into whether or not 18-year-old JoJo’s murder had anything to do with a feud with Chief Keef and his crew, dubbed #300 Squad—a set affiliated with Chicago’s Black Disciples gang. The controversial young MC, who is poised for stardom after his song “I Don’t Like” was remixed by Kanye West, received some backup from home. His grandmother told the Chicago Sun-Times that her grandson is being unfairly targeted.

“How can he be doing all that gang stuff when he’s always home and when he’s not at home he’s out of town with me or his uncle,” Mrs. Carter explained. “And where’s this gang at? In my kitchen? In my basement? Where they at? In my refrigerator where he go all the time?”—Keith Murphy, CBS Local
