[photogallerylink id=82433 align=left]Looks like the Jay-Z and Beyonce duo is unstoppable. Now, their talents are being brought into the classroom and taught to students!

Last year Michael Dyson taught a 3-credit course at Georgetown University “Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z.” Many parents did not approve of the class, however, Dyson assured that the course was not “meant to sit around and go, ‘Oh man, those lyrics were dope.’ We’re dealing with everything that’s important in a sociology class: race, gender, ethnicity, class, economic inequality, social injustice…” At the end of the course, he received very positive feedback.

Now, according to The Jasmine Brand, “Kevin Allred, professor and doctoral student at Rutgers University in New Jersey, is now offering a course on the Queen B entitled, ‘Politicizing Beyonce.'”

Similar to the Jay-Z course, Allred wants to “portray Beyonce as more than just an amazing entertainer, actress or sex symbol.” His goal is more to teach about Beyonce’s ability to “alter social norms.”

Allred explains his intention with teaching this course saying:

“This isn’t a course about Beyonce’s engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend…….She clearly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.”

The purpose of this class is emphasize her importance in the Black feminism movement along with other major influential women as “Sojourner Truth, Bell Hooks, and Alice Walker.”

Jay-Z and Beyonce’s influence has spread around the entire world. In order to make sure their influence and importance is understand in depth and in a positive perspective could definitely be important for students in today’s generation.
