Today is World AIDS Day. Besides getting tested as you should do any day besides today there are many events going on in the city to help you become aware the disease and to get tested.

DC Fights Back World AIDS Day Rally @ 11:30
Freedom Plaza, 14th and Pennsylvania Ave. NW

Activists will “call on the new City Mayor and City Council to develop a comprehensive strategy to address the severe HIV epidemic in DC.” Ralliers are specifically “concerned about the growing numbers of people living with AIDS on the AIDS Housing waiting list as well as the low income housing waiting list.”

Candlelight Vigil @ 5:30
Dupont Circle, 1900 P St. NW

The Whitman-Walker Clinic’s annual candlelight vigil in Dupont Circle will recognize the fact that “at least one in every seven gay or bisexual men in DC has HIV.” The DC Center will partner with WWC to lead the vigil, and the clinic’s mobile testing unit will be on-hand for rapid HIV testing.

“Red Hot Night” Fundraiser After Vigil
Urbana, Hotel Palomar, 2121 P St. NW

The Whitman-Walker Clinic hosts a fundraiser at Dupont Circle wine bar Urbana. Proceeds from “Red Hot Night” will benefit the clinic.

Social event with singing, dancing and music.

Illuminations… Light from the Soul
Covenant Baptist Church
3845 South Capitol St. SW

Interfaith worship service that takes a journey through the intimate stories of those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, a night where life is transformed into dance, music, and poetry. Each story is translated into poetry, reenacted by dancers, and accompanied by the gospel music that helped them through these trials and tribulations. The event will also include a prayer vigil.
